ABOUT JOHN ALDAG

Driven, Proven, Progressive

Get to know me, and how delivered results for Cloverdale - Langley City.

Hi, I’m John 👋🏼

I’m a proud husband and father of three who grew up on a farm on the prairies.

There, I learned the value of kindness and hard work, and how in life, family and community mean everything.

As a young man, I followed my passions for our environment, history, and public service when I began a career with Parks Canada. For over 30 years, I led parks, historic sites, and programs in eight provinces and territories - where I had the privilege of experiencing Canada’s diverse history, breathtaking geography, rich culture, and proud traditions.

Wherever life took me, I brought my core values of hope, hard work and family. In 2005, I chose the place closest to my heart - our community - to call home, and raise a family.

In 2012, I was forced to lay off most of our researchers and scientists at the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, as a result of Conservative policies. The Harper government’s contempt for science put the Canada I knew, and loved, at risk.

My commitment to protecting our progress led me to run for public office - and in 2015, I was elected Member of Parliament for Cloverdale-Langley City.

Over 4 years, I proudly represented our diverse and growing community, securing federal support for families, seniors, local businesses and new Canadians to ensure everyone had a more equitable chance at success.

For two years I was not in the Parliament, I watched our community struggle, and continue to listen to families, seniors and local businesses to better understand their needs so I can put them first.

As we emerge from COVID-19, we need strong leadership to build a better, stronger and more resilient community.

I’m grateful for your support so we could move forward, together.

PROGRESSIVE —

I’m steadfast in my pursuit of being an ally of anyone who faces injustice or inequality.

I believe that hate has no place in Canada or our community. I condemn racism and discrimination in all forms.

I will uphold, protect, and fight for the rights of 2SLGBTQIA+ peoples. Love is love.

I believe in safe, accessible and affordable family planning, and sexual and reproductive healthcare for all Canadians. Every woman has the right to make decisions about her own body. Full stop.

I believe it’s imperative we act on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action to achieve meaningful reconciliation and protect Indigenous rights, language, heritage, and culture.

I believe in equality for Canadians of all abilities. Disability equality benefits all Canadians.

I believe that every senior deserves a dignified retirement. Our seniors made Canada what it is today.

I believe in the right of every Canadian to practice their religious beliefs in peace, free from interference or persecution.

I believe in fairness and equality for everyone.
